Topic:  Install of DO.15.00.00 software build for GOES-18 and GOES-19

Date/Time Issued: April 30, 2025 1315Z

Product(s) or Data Impacted: GOES-18 & GOES-19 ABI L1b, ABI L2+, and SpWx L1b products

Date/Time of Initial Impact: May 21, 2025

Date/Time of Expected End: N/A

Length of Outage: N/A

Details/Specifics: On May 21, 2025, the DO.15.00.00 software update will be placed into operations on the GOES-R Ground System (GS). This release will bring improvements to the product generation and distribution of ABI L1b and L2+ products and Space Weather (SpWx) L1b products. A summary of the changes users should be aware of is provided below:

ABI L1b

  • Improvement to the spacelook count filtering logic to remove spikes due to lunar contamination or saturation

ABI L2+

  • A new default global snow mask will be made available as a backup to the NISE in case of unavailability

  • Implementation of creation, versioning, and distribution of algorithm packages (APs) and parameter packages (PPs)

  • Make permanent the changes promoted in PR.14.01, which includes:

    • LSA & BRF algorithm updates and changes to the DQF definition

    • Updated LUT for Cloud Mask for GOES-19 to improve subpixel statistics for visible bands

    • Updated DQFs for products produced by the COMP algorithm

    • GOES-19 updates for AOD coefficients and subpoint longitude

    • Distribution of intermediate data products needed by NCCF for generation of CONUS Sky Cover products

SpWx L1b

  • Update to the formula for computing SUVI instrument response metadata (INSTRESP)

  • EXIS eclipse/lunar transit/calibration spike filtering

  • Removal of a dependency for MPS-Hi contamination correction on SGPS data (this is part 1 of a 2 part solution, the second part will be delivered in DO.16)

  • Correction of the computation of energy bounds for the lowest two Helium channels (HE1 and HE2). The fluxes for these channels are now computed from SGPS rather than EHIS. This change will also captured in an update to the Product User’s Guide (PUG)
