Satellite Source: Suomi NPP VIIRS Mode: Multispectral Resolution: 375 meter Image Date & Time: 06-04-2018 1849 UTC Confidence: Medium-High Issue Date: 06-04-2018 Region: Gulf of Mexico Location: 2856'16" N, 8858'14" W Coverage Area: 20.69 km^2 Remarks: A possible oil slick was observed in satellite imagery. The slick appeared to originate from the location of Destroyed Taylor platform, a source of repeat oil leaks. The anomaly extends approximately 6.2 nm east from the platform and is measured 0.76 nm wide. The anomaly exhibits a silvery appearance in coarse resolution imagery and the direction aligns well with ocean current data near the time of image Uncertainties: Since the anomaly seems to originate from a repeat oil leak source and was detected in coarse resolution imagery, the confidence level is medium high.
