REPORT DATE: 10-06-2019
REPORT TIME: 0040 UTC
REGION: ATLANTIC
SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S.
AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 6555
IMAGE DATE: 10-05-2019
IMAGE TIME: 2227 UTC
DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2
MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV
RESOLUTION: 50 meter
LOCATION: 40°29'25" N/69°52'02" W
AREA: 1.10 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020)
CONFIDENCE: Medium-High
REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. An oil slick was observed from the wreck of the Andrea Doria. The slick extended 2.65 nm to the southeast and then northeast and was up to 0.33 nm wide. Winds at the time of the image were 5-10 knots from the northeast.

UNCERTAINTIES: The orientation of the anomaly was opposed to the surface winds which were from the northeast. Winds were also on the lower end of what would typically be considered ideal for detection of oil in SAR imagery. This may account for the rather diffuse appearance of the anomaly. The anomaly may also extend to the west of the source but confidence was too low to indicate as much. For these reasons confidence for this repeat leak source was lowered to medium-high.
