DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0028Z February 7, 2025

SMOKE:
Southeastern United States...
In the southeastern United States moderate agricultural burning was
detected creating a large area of smoke over most of Florida up into
southern Georgia moving northeast and east over the southeastern Atlantic
coast. Several larger agricultural burns throughout the Florida peninsula
were seen producing at least moderate smoke creating patches of moderate
smoke through the mix.


AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Central and Southern Mexico/Pacific Ocean/Gulf of Mexico/Bay of
Campeche...
An area of predominantly light density smoke and aerosols attributed to
scattered agricultural burning, volcanic emissions and industrial sources
throughout Central and Southern Mexico was observed along Mexico’s
Central and Southern Pacific coasts, extending west into Pacific Ocean
and in the western parts of the Gulf of Mexico near the Bay of Campeche.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
