DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2350Z April 12th, 2025

SMOKE:
Kansas/Missouri/Oklahoma/Arkansas/Texas/Mississippi...
A large area of light to medium density smoke attributed to previous and
ongoing fires was observed this evening stretching south from eastern
Kansas and western Missouri through the southeastern states into the Gulf
of America. Several individual plumes ranging from light to moderate
in density were seen scattered throughout Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma,
Arkansas, Texas, and Mississippi.

Cuba...
A large area of light density smoke was observed this evening drifting
southwestward across Cuba into the Caribbean Sea.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Central and Southern Mexico/Central America/Pacific Ocean/Gulf of
America/Yucatan Peninsula/...
An area of light density smoke and aerosols attributed to widespread
seasonal fire activity, volcanic emissions, and industrial sources
throughout Central and Southern Mexico was observed this morning along
the western coast of Mexico. This smoke mass was observed extending
further off the coastline of southern Mexico and Central America into the
Pacific Ocean. Smoke was also observed drifting south along the eastern
coast of Mexico into the Gulf of America and drifting southward from
the Yucatan Peninsula.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
