DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z April 20th, 2025

SMOKE:
US Mid-west...
An area of light-density smoke was observed dispersing northeastward
from Western Nebraska to Central Kansas, the Central-Eastern Dakotas
and Northwestern Minnesota.

Great Lakes/Ohio Valley/Northeastern US/Northwestern Atlantic...
Light smoke from previous days fires in the Central and Mid-western
US could be seen stretching from Southern Lake Michigan, passing over
the Ohio Valley, reaching the Northeastern, and extending for several
hundred miles over the Northwestern Atlantic.

Cuba...
Widespread fire activity could be seen across the Island of Cuba this
morning, with  a few individual plumes consisting of light-density smoke
dispersing towards the east.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Central and Southern Mexico/Southern Texas/Gulf of America/Pacific
Ocean...
An area of light density smoke and aerosols, attributed to widespread
seasonal fire activity, volcanic emissions, and industrial sources
throughout Central and Southern Mexico remain visible over the Western
Gulf of America, Central Mexico, and the Pacific Ocean off Mexico’s
southern coastline.

DUST
Central Texas/Northern Mexico
Yesterday’s blowing dust event which originated over southeastern
New Mexico and Northern Mexico continues to spread southeastward this
morning across Central Texas and over much of the state of Coahuila and
southeastern Chihuahua in Northern Mexico.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
