DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2310Z April 29th, 2025

SMOKE:
Eastern US/Atlantic Ocean...
A large area of remnant light density smoke due to recent agricultural
fires in the US Midwest was observed moving eastward over the Eastern
US and into the Atlantic Ocean.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Northeastern, Central and Southern Mexico/Pacific Ocean/Gulf of America...
An area of light smoke and aerosols, attributed to widespread seasonal
fire activity, volcanic emissions, and industrial sources throughout
Central and Southern Mexico was observed today from Northeastern,
Central and Southern Mexico. The combination of smoke and aerosols
was observed extending south over the Pacific Ocean off of Mexico’s
southern coastline and east into the Gulf of America off of Mexico’s
eastern coastline.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
